In Christianity, prays simultaneously performed with music, which is made in order to alleviate the punishment of
the grave of the individual and to mention the decedent, are known as “requiem”. When the history of the music is
considered, it can be seen that requiem, which is an independent form and composition of prays taking place in the
church, has improved itself with the composer's point of views. In this study, it is aimed to examine three different
examples of the development of requiem which is the symbol of polyphonic music in Christian faith. Additionally,
the alterations in the texts and sections of requiem and the reasons why the composers write requiem are
evaluated.
