1456399752 Conservation and Restoration of The Hasankeyf Imam Abdullah Zawiya

The Imam Abdullah Zawiya has been built by Meliku’l Muvahhid Takiyyeddin Abdullah, the Ayyubid Malik, in the years 1249-1294 in the Hasankeyf ancient city. Because of the recent structural problems of the hermitage, to strengthen the sections which were almost collapsed, Immediate Prevention and Support Project has been ordered in 2010 by Hasankeyf Excavation Directorate. This project has been executed in 2012-2013 as a part of Ilısu Dam Project. During the restoration and conservation treatment, portlant cement based mortars over the façade of the building has been removed. After this process, walls and dome of the building has been reinforced. In these treatments, original mortar, which contains lime, cas (local material made of limestone) and stone agregate has been used as indicated in the conservation report. During the works on the dome it has been noticed that originally it is based on octagonal rim instead of recent circular one, thus restoration works has been finished by following recently appeared original traces of it. After finishing restoration treatments completely, observations made every 6 months and it is noticed that the dome requires maintenance especially after winter.
