1434459796 Investigating of Microstructure and Hardness Values of Spheroidising Heat Treated Medium Carbon Steel

In this study, by applying different spheroidising heat treatment cycles on medium carbon steel obtained with microstructure differenties and hardness values were investigated. For this purpose a group of AISI 1050 materials were annealed at 700°C below Ac1 temperature for 720 minutes and cementite phases were spheroidised with the traditional method. Another group of materials were quenched after austenition at 850 °C for 15 minutes and then cementite was spheroidised in ferrite matrix with over-tempering separately at 500, 600 and 700 °C for 15 and 60 minutes. Depending on the result of the study, it was carried out that spheroidising cementite formation in microstructure is in less time than conventional spheroidizing heat treatment. However, samples at 500 ° C heat treatment has not been observed in spheroidising cementite. Cementite particles sizes in the microstructure increased depending on the increased spheroidising time and temperature. Contrary to this, hardness values of the samples were found to decrease.
