1360837799 Morphologic and Biological Characteristics of The Pistachio Trees and Factors That Affect Yield

The pistachio tree and its culture history, biology, phisyology and factors that effect yield has been reviewed in the light of previous studies. Recent archeological evidence in Turkey suggests that humans were enjoying them as early as 7,000 B.C. Pistachios display three physiological conditions. The first one is alternate bearing; the second one is the production of blank, or unfilled nuts and the third one is nonsplit nuts. Maintaining boron leaf levels above 120 ppm and providing sufficient water to avoid water stress during the season will at least avoid exacerbation of blank nut production. Controllable factors that affect shell split include: harvest timing, irrigation and boron nutrition.
