Family is the most fundamental institution of society in which, for the firs
time, culture and values began to develop, In this study, family formation between
1839-1841 were studied and family life which undertake an important role on the
continuation of the existence of society are discussed by evaluating the number 20
Sivas Legislative Registry. İn this period, Ottoman family structure and culture were
elucidated in the context of example of Sivas by number of children associated with
the status of polygamy, number of children in terms of the differences between Muslim
and non-Muslims. İn this context, family formation, flace of women in Ottoman
society, and in terms status of polygamy and number of children specifying the nature
of family in Sivas, in which family known as the basic structure of the society as
in entire Ottoman Empire, will be displayed and this will contribute comments and
findings abaut the Ottoman family strusture.
