HVAC systems consume a considerable energy in order to provide comfort
conditions in buildings. The power consumption of HVAC systems depend on cooling
loads. A significant part of cooling load is the solar radiation passed through windows.
Therefore, the calculation of solar radiation as a heat gain accurately has a crucial
effect on both initial and operation cost of system and providing comfort conditions.
Solar radiation passed through windows can be taken from tables or if all local and
geographical parameters are known, they can be predicted or calculated. Although global
solar radiation on horizontal plane is measured and easily reachable these data, there
are not the measured solar radiation incident tilted surfaces except some experimental
studies. In this study, solar radiation data on titled surfaces for different orientation were
determined for Batman using long term measured data. Optimum tilted angles were
calculated for solar collectors oriented to South. In addition to all, solar radiation passed
through windows for heat gain calculation were determined for both single and double
pane and obtained data are given in tables.
